Cost Accountant

Responsibilities
1. Costing & Cost Analysis
Prepare and maintain cost sheets for all products and services.
Calculate the cost of goods sold (COGS) accurately and consistently.
Monitor production costs, material costs, labor costs, and overheads.
Analyze variances between standard and actual costs and report reasons for deviations.
Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to ensure accurate cost inputs.
Conduct profitability analysis on individual products and services.
2. Pricing
Propose pricing based on cost data, market trends, and profit margin targets.
Review and update pricing strategies in consultation with management.
Ensure consistency in pricing across different outlets or departments.
Provide input on promotional pricing or discount decisions.
3. Inventory Management & Counting
Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual physical inventory counts.
Reconcile physical stock with system records and investigate discrepancies.
Assist in setting up inventory control systems to improve accuracy.
Monitor inventory levels to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.
Identify slow-moving or obsolete items and recommend actions.
4. Expiry Monitoring
Regularly check for expiry dates of inventory, especially perishable or time-sensitive items.
Coordinate with sales and operations teams to prioritize the sale of items nearing expiry.
Report expired or damaged goods for proper disposal and accounting adjustments.
Support implementation of First Expiry, First Out (FEFO) inventory practices where applicable.
5. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare regular cost reports for management review.
Generate detailed reports on inventory valuation, expiry losses, and wastage.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of cost, pricing, and stock movements.
Ensure proper documentation and audit trail for all inventory-related transactions.
6. Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in preparation of departmental budgets and forecasts.
Analyze historical cost trends to support budgeting decisions.
Monitor actual spending against budgeted figures and report variances.
7. Internal Controls & Compliance
Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting standards.
Assist in audits and respond to audit queries related to costing and inventory.
Support risk management efforts through cost control measures.
8. Cross-Department Coordination
Work closely with finance, sales, purchasing, operations, and warehouse teams.
Provide cost data to support decision-making in procurement, production, and pricing.
Train and guide relevant staff on costing procedures and inventory policies.
Any other task assigned by management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in cost accounting or inventory control.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, inventory systems, and ERP software.
Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
